The End

The End of Blogust 2014

Day 31 has arrived. I have to say that I am very proud of myself for sticking with it and completing my Blogust challenge: Blogging every day in August!

In all honesty, it was a long month of writing. I know that I could not do it every day, every month because I let a lot of things slide and was rushing until ten minutes ago to get two big projects done on time.  It was a great challenge and made me realize that I really do love to write & share, so I am going to continue a weekly schedule. I promise to include more pictures since I plan on having some freed up time to do some crafting. Actually I have a big day of it planned tomorrow and my daily September challenge is a photo a day (I have another challenge that I will post about later in the week…I have to see if I make it through the first day!).

If you stuck with me, thank you. I really do appreciate it and if not, well thank you as well. I know my life is not exciting, but it is the one I have and I am doing my best to make the most of it.

They See Me Browsin'

What's your favorite store to browse in?

I can get lost in a craft store. I like the “big” Joann Fabric & Craft Store that is two hours away from me. I don’t get there often, but when I do, it is easy for me to spend a lot of time in there. I pick up things and then put them back, look some more, go and pick them back up. I like a good Michael’s as well, but with the Joann’s store, there are ribbons and fabrics (not that I am a sewer) plus the paper crafting, beading, sometimes they even have decent yarn. It really is a great store to browse in. My local Joann store is horrible. They have maybe 30% of what is in the flyer and even then, they might have one or two. I sort of feel like the store here gets the “hand-me-downs”. Every once in a while they will surprise you, but not often.

As far as online stores, my favorite is Amazon because they have so much stuff! Books, movies, crafts, clothing, kitchen wares, electronics, food, the list is almost endless.

What is/are your favorite store(s)? Let me know, I am always looking for new places to spend my money!

What I Watch

One of your favorite shows

I think my favorite show changes constantly. So instead of picking just one, I will list the shows that I am currently watching. These are in no particular order.

  • Chicago Fire
  • Chicago PD (although I really can't stand Voit)
  • Castle
  • The Blacklist (fingers crossed for a strong second season)
  • Grey's Anatomy (kind of getting bored, but you never know when something will happen)
  • Scandal (always confused)
  • Last Man Standing (a great find by accident)
  • The Vampire Diaries (last season was so boring. Looking forward to having Alaric back)
  • Arrow (on the fence if it will stay on the list. Everyone is so clueless!)
  • Under The Dome (I thought about reading the book, but decided it would probably take as long to finish as just watching the series)
  • Rizzoli & Isles
  • General Hospital - still after all these years I keep watching
  • Motive
  • Rookie Blue
  • Law & Order: SVU (I went back after Chris Meloni left)
  • Modern Family
  • CSI (sometimes)
  • Brooklyn Nine Nine
  • Bones (I usually binge watch this)
  • Pittsburgh Penguins games

Five Goals

5 Current Goals

I will go with current as of today. My Top 5 Current Goals are:

  1. ·        September Goals
  2. ·        Merge lists into one giant master list
  3. ·        Finish the last Minion Hat
  4. ·        Finish the Blog-ust
  5. ·        Pay Bills

It’s not a very exciting list really. But it is best to keep them small & manageable. I am slowly learning about keeping things in small manageable chunks, to break the big projects down into small projects, like a nesting doll in a way.

What are your current goals? Please share with me. I am keeping up to date on emails (thanks to my new found systems & drive).

Favorite Quote

“In the midst of order, there is disorder” ~Unknown

My professor in my very first college class wrote this on the board day one and ever since it has stuck with me. He attributed it to an unknown author and I have tried several times over the years to find the source, without any luck. Perhaps he was the author or perhaps it is so bastardized that even Google doesn't recognize it. In any event, it has been my go to favorite quote.

I look at it and I think of how it applies to everything. Even the most organized, put together organization, person, couple, etc., has some sort of chaos in their life. It serves as a reminder that we all have masks that we put on.

Do you have a favorite quote? Let me know. I am collecting them now, because why not, I have so many other things I collect, may as well add another to the list right? No, I am on a journey & am always looking for those triggers that move me a step or three forward.

Open Sesame

If you could wish for only three things to come true, what would you wish for?

  1. Win a big lottery so my immediate family will be able to live the life they want & we can all live in anonymity so the extended family can’t leech off of us.

  2. For people to find their definition of peace & happiness in a world that is simple
  3. More money for schools so that we don’t end up with a future of people who think “stoled” is an actual word.

What would you wish for? Hit the comments & let me know.

Grease is the word

Your favorite movie & what it is about

Grease has always been my go to favorite movie.  It is your basic boy meets girl, boy screws up, says he is sorry, girl believes him, he screws up again, girl reluctantly goes to the movies, he tries to cop a feel, boy gets hit in the balls, boy races a car, girl watches, realizes she is too plain, gets her dropout bestie to do a makeover, boy preppies up, girl skanks up, boy loves new skanky girl, they drive off into the literal sunset and live happily ever after story.

Filling in the blanks are the “mean girls”; the skanks, the chubber and the eclectic goof. The bad boys include, the most likely to land in jail, most likely to be gay, the chubber and the most likely to end up an eventual politician. It is set during senior year, where you have a very strict principal with a secret penchant for the good looking bad boys, the bumbling secretary who you are not really sure how she got the job or keeps it. The shop teacher who is so tiny I don’t know that she could even carry an oil pan, the coach who is all about sports, the jock played by a very tan and blonde Lorenzo Lamas. There is the very questionable “best dancer at St. Bernadette’s” and by questionable I mean old. And the totally pervy pedophile Snake? I think that was his name. He was super gross.

A very suggestive movie but pulled off in such a way you don’t realize how suggestive it is until you are very much older. Nothing like today’s coming of age stories.

What is your favorite movie?

Living Single

Whew! I didn't think I was going to be able to post today. We have been affected by the Charter internet outage that is apparently nationwide. Our internet has been spotty & slow (not great when you rely on it for television! We cut the cord in February.) so I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get this to post. Without further adieu...

Your current relationship, if single, discusses how single life is.

I am single and it is pretty okay. I can’t really say I know anything other than being single so it is hard to compare, but I can tell you all the things I love about being single.

·         I can do what I want when I want (with the exception of work & typical restrictions)
·         I get to watch whatever I want, when I want
·         I get to drive (actually that might be a drawback)
·         I get the whole bed and I definitely take advantage of that)
·         I take long showers
·         I don’t feel obligated to shave my legs as often as my coupled friends do
·         I get the entire closet (small as it is)
·         I don’t have to worry about any of my d├ęcor being too girly
·         I don’t feel bad about crushing on hot guys
·         I don’t have to watch sports I don’t like (hello baseball, boxing, Nascar)

Sure there are some drawbacks, but for now this status suits me just fine.

Fear Landscape

What would you say is your biggest fear in general?

Rejection. I had a lot of choices to go with, but overall, my biggest fear (and more often than I would like) is rejection.  I am not talking about romantic relationships, I am talking about people I love and admire being upset with me, or losing out on a job that I really want(ed).

Rejection breaks people. I don’t like feeling broken & alone. I have been feeling that for nearly 24 hours now and I absolutely hate it. It is hard to put on a brave face & say it doesn’t bother me, because it bothers me to my core.

I am the type of person who needs to be reminded that she is doing a good job & that her stuff is good, pretty, creative, etc. When I don’t get that, I get paranoid & then I start to worry and then I imagine the worst and it is a cycle that I would love to break, but I don’t know how.

I wonder how one would get through this in a fear landscape?

30 Years Too Late

What bit of advice would you give to your 8 year old self?

Look here, you are eight years old. You have it so easy now, but if you don’t make the right choices beginning now, life is going to be hard and miserable. So here is my advice to you:

  • Don’t be so afraid. You got hurt once, it doesn’t mean you have to stop trying things. Be brave.
  • Read. A lot.
  • Find your craft early. Maybe not today, but don’t dawdle.
  • Try hard in school. Sure it comes easy, but give it your best effort & be successful.
  • Run, play, swim; whatever you do, STAY ACTIVE
  • You don’t have to be like everyone else. Be different, be yourself. You will be happier.
  • Learn to say no. You don’t have to make everyone happy 100% of the time.
  • Write. Every day. Just put the pen to the paper (before you know it, technology will take over) and write.
  • Don’t be afraid of rejection or failure. You will find that by being afraid, you fail yourself time and time again.
  • Finish what you start. You might be surprised.
  • Tell everyone you love, that you love them, a lot.
  • Recognize the special moments & document them.
  • Take more pictures
  • Save your money.
  • Boys do not have cooties. Well not all of them.
  • Save all of those cool toys you have now because in thirty years they will be priceless or very expensive on ebay.
  • Don’t complain about childhood, adulthood is not all you think it is.
  • If you fall, get back up, dust yourself off and don’t cry.
  • This may sound crazy, but one day you will understand: Don’t get into internet fights!

Love yourself now so that you can love yourself forever.

Dear Me

Write a letter to yourself.

Dear Me,

What the hell did you do with your life? Seriously, you could have been anything and you end up a chubby, miserable loner. I know you are on this journey to self-love and I hate to tell you this, but it is a long journey & I don’t think you will make it. After all, I know you better than anyone.

You really only have yourself to blame for all the anger you have built up inside of you. Every mistake you made and didn’t learn from is all on you. Every time you were too trusting, ended up burning you to the core.  I thought you would have learned, but you didn’t. You always find a reason, an excuse. You own those mistakes, but you should not still be making them this late in life.

You need to remember one thing: Don’t trust attention whores. Don’t feed into their bullshit and for the love of god, do not tell them anything. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer is sage advice! You would be best to make that your motto. Keep your secrets to yourself and if you must tell someone, make sure it is someone you can trust completely.

I didn’t really want to bring you down today, but then I saw a few events unfold and realized you needed the harsh truth. You needed to be reminded of the assholes who make your life hell and how you should never, ever trust them. They are not looking out for you, so why should you look out for them? You shouldn’t; throw them under the bus before they throw you under it, back it up and run you over again.

Love you…no I really do love you…

What is something you regret not having done last year?

Following through with things is something I always regret not doing. Whether it is diet & exercise or a project, I hate when I don’t complete something I was really gung ho about doing. I guess that is why I am still doing this blogging challenge for August. I want to prove to myself & the world wide web (remember when that is how the Internet was referred to?) that I can do it. I really can finish something I started.

In January, my goal was to focus more. I was going to do One Little Word, without knowing what all it entailed, and my word was “focus”. I didn’t even make it two days. In March I got kind of serious about staying focused at work. I tracked how long certain projects would take so that I could mentally prepare myself for them.

In mid-July, I decided that I didn’t have to wait for the beginning of the month to start fresh. I just started with a few tasks that I really felt strongly about sticking to and a month in, I am happy to say that I have not wavered, not even once. There have been times when I have wanted to “skip” it, but I remind myself that the only one who gets hurt is me and I don’t want to hurt myself anymore.

I am more happy and more centered. I can recognize the patterns & correct them.

Is there something you have regretted not doing this past year? Share with me in the comments.

First Celebrity Crush

My first celebrity crush is not something that I have to search the recesses of my mind for. I have always been pretty steadfast in my devotion to…

Adrian Zmed. From his days as Vince Romano on T.J. Hooker to his days as

Johnny Nogerelli in Grease 2.

I have been a loyal fan, never missing a TJ Hooker rerun or an episode of Confessions of a Teen Idol on VH1.

Who was your first celebrity crush? Hit the comments and let me know.

Gin & Chronic

Your views on drugs & alcohol

It’s interesting when the world times things just right.

I am not a drinker, never really have been and I have never done “street” drugs. Neither really holds anything for me. I figure I should preface my thoughts with those facts.

I think marijuana should be legalized at a national/federal level. I think it should be taxed heavily & that money should go towards schools and healthcare. It is pretty much that simple for me.

I think alcohol should be taxed higher than it currently is and that money should go to schools & healthcare as well.

If schools had supplies and updated curriculum and paid teachers a wage that made the good ones stick around, then maybe kids wouldn’t be so quick to drink & do drugs instead of getting an education. And maybe if people had access to decent healthcare they could afford, their addictions could be treated and their demons controlled.

I live in a town that has this mentality that “in order to have a good time you have to get shitfaced”. It has always been that way. We have three major festivals in town and every single one of them has a beer garden of some kind, one has full on street bars. I think most sporting events have a beer garden, including high school games.

My high school reunion was a few weeks ago & one classmate had a teen who was offering to be a designated driver for $5.00 a ride. How sad is it that the child of a woman who is nearly 40 years old knows that his mom & friends are going to be so drunk they will need to have a ride home? Kudos for him for being responsible enough to offer to be a sober driver & trying to make a little cash on the embarrassment that is getting shitfaced at 40. I was mortified and even though I had already decided I wanted nothing to do with that reunion, was never more solidified in that decision. And there were the facebook posts about being hit by the ’94 train. Embarrassing. So embarrassing.

I don’t care if people drink & smoke weed, as long as they are responsible. If you want to get drunk, fine, but think about the message you are sending and for the love of all in this world, do not drive or operate anything, including your phone & camera! And think of what you are doing to your body!

It is a controversial topic and there is no right answer and there is no wrong answer. There are two sides to every coin after all.
